Abstract
With immersive technologies like Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality(MR) taking off faster than ever, there is a serious scope for the higher education sector to leverage these in engaging its students more effectively as well as providing experiential learning leading to better retention of information. This paper provides an overview of applications, advantages and disadvantages of immersive learning technology in contemporary higher education environments. By studying empirical data and current case studies the paper identifies several significant opportunities for immersive technology to create interactive learning environments that offers more suitable type of learning in many aspects. However it highlights many significant challenges: the need for professional technical help, high implementation costs and issues of equity and fairness. The findings show that while immersive technologies have the ability to change educational experiences and results, good deployment depends on careful planning, suitable resource allocation, and continuous evaluation even if they might revolutionise This research aims to provide legislators and teachers insightful analysis of the benefits and drawbacks of immersive learning in shaping the higher education scene going forward.
