Abstract

Many countries face the problem of declining environmental quality. One cause of this decline is carbon dioxide, which continues to increase along with economic activity. However, as a developing country, Indonesia still needs economic progress, so economic activities are necessary. Empirical evidence of the influence of economic progress on carbon dioxide is very important so that various policies can be implemented that are able to control or reduce pollution. One of these policies is monetary policy. Based on these considerations, this research is fundamental in providing the latest references on the influence of economic activity on carbon dioxide and the influence of monetary policy to control carbon dioxide. This study examines the dynamic response of carbon dioxide to Indonesia's economy and monetary policy. The quarterly data from 2000.1 to 2022.4 are used to estimate the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) Model. The results of testing the model used in this study showed that the model used met the requirements for time series analysis, especially in the ARDL model. The results show that the accumulated economy and monetary policy significantly affect Indonesia's carbon dioxide. Meanwhile, only the economy significantly affects Indonesia's carbon dioxide in the long run. It is suggested that an incentive to investors through a lower interest rate improves green economic activities.
