Abstract
Banda Aceh serves as a pivotal center for economic growth within Aceh Province, primarily due to significant advancements in infrastructure and various economic sectors. Over the past decade, the city has experienced a steady increase in population, with an average of 256,486 residents annually. Projections suggest that this growth will continue, underscoring the importance of understanding migration dynamics in the area. This study seeks to examine the patterns and distribution of migration in Banda Aceh, specifically investigating the relationship between observed migration trends and the motivations behind them. To achieve this objective, the research employs descriptive analysis alongside multinomial logistic regression techniques. The study analyzes data derived from 330 households, which constitute 59% of the migrant population in Banda Aceh. The findings indicate that the Meuraxa District hosts the highest concentration of migrants, predominantly originating from other regencies within Aceh Province. Notably, employment opportunities and educational prospects emerge as the primary catalysts for migration to this urban center. The results of the multinomial logistic regression further elucidate these dynamics. They reveal that the aspiration to purchase or construct new homes significantly influences migration from Aceh Besar Regency. Conversely, employment and educational factors predominantly drive migration from other regencies within Aceh, as well as from outside the province. These findings illuminate the socio-economic factors that shape migration patterns in Banda Aceh, offering valuable insights for policymakers tasked with managing urban growth and migration effectively. Addressing these underlying motivations is crucial for developing strategies that enhance the integration of migrants into the local economy and society.
