THE ANALYSIS OF MOTIVATION LEVEL OF SMOKING CESSATION ON COFFEE SHOP VISITORS IN BANDA ACEH

Abstract


The smoking cessation program in Indonesia has not received ani sufficient attention because the restraint focus on Tobacco issues is prioritized on environmental factors that strongly encourage people to smoke and prevent people from quitting. A person’s desire to stop smoking arises from a person’s knowledge of the dangers of cigarettes accompained by a strong desire and motivation to do so. High motivation is necessary for the process of smoking cessation. It can be kwnow through the fulfillment of psysiological needs, social needs, achievement needs, and maintenance factors. The purpose of this study is ti determine the level of motivation to stop smoking at Coffee Shop customers in Banda Aceh. Sampling technique in this study in Purposive Sampling about 250 respondents by using questionares in the form of Likert Scale as teh instrument of data collection. Data colletction was done by using Chi square test. Based on the result of Chi square test, it is known that the level of motivation to stop smoking influences the physiological needs (p= 0,004, Exp (B)= 0,605), social needs (p= 0,000, Exp (B)= 0,975), achievement needs (p= 0,000, Exp (B)= 0, 862), maintenance factors (p= 0,004, Exp (B)= 0,605).  It is recomended that community nurses provide information about the dangers of cigarettes in a leaflet and cooperate with Coffee Shop owners to establish a smoking ban rule in a Coffee Shop.
